Meet Joseph, Information Analyst at Data to Insight
Joseph was an Information Analyst for East Sussex Children's services when he enrolled on the Data Analyst Level 4 programme. Joseph performed crucial work on a daily basis to better support children in social care. Since graduating from the programme in June 2023, he is now a Data Manager.
Personal highlights
Whilst on the programme, Joseph shared: "Coding was always a gap in my knowledge and I feel the programme has already opened up so many possibilities for improving processes which gives me more time for in-depth analysis work. Learning SQL is a great example of this and has massively improved my understanding of the reports we create which means I'm more confident working on them. Working towards a qualification which will sit alongside my years of experience will definitely help open future career opportunities for me too."
Advice to other learners
"Do the programme! I didn't have any difficulties finding time in my day for the programme which really came as a result of the buy-in from my managers. The course was so tailored to my day job, it has massively surpassed my expectations! Overall it has made me much more confident in my role."
"The distinction between the programme and 'work' is much more blended than just setting two half days aside per week - it has seamlessly become a part of my day-to-day job."
Audrey, Data Analytics graduate
Meet Andy, Privacy Transformation Manager at Asda
Andy had been part of the Asda team for six years when he enrolled on the Data Analyst Level 4 programme with no prior experience of coding. He graduated in 2021.
Personal highlights
"By the end of the programme, I could build clustering algorithms in Python and predictive analytics in terms of time series. When it came to my synoptic project, I found that was the most enjoyable assignment that I've ever done. It was a chance to bring all of the data analytics, coding and predictive analytics learnings into one project. If you had said I would be able to do this at the beginning of the programme I would have laughed but by the end of the programme, it was probably one of my best pieces of work."
Business impact
Since starting the programme, Andy used his growing skillset to positively influence the business. He created a Python code with the package Selenium to update a web platform that previously took between 5-10 hours of manual input each time, saving the business countless hours in the process to focus on higher-value responsibilities.
Andy helped to form a more data literate culture by sharing his experience with his peers: "I've been able to take what I've learned on the programme and help influence and teach other people in my team, how to better store data, how to better structure our data, and ultimately, how to enrich it."
"Thinking on my success following achieving the Data professional apprenticeship I reflect on the support I was given by Corndel. The one-to-one support from my development expert alongside the well structured and manageable modules have really helped."
